The Human and the IFS Therapist
The Human and the IFS Therapist
I have had a lifelong curiosity about people, relationships, families, and communities. It is no wonder that I was drawn to becoming a therapist. From as early as I can remember, I have felt called to bring more love, connection, healing, and harmony into my little corner of the world—and now, into the world at large.
Knowing that I can only offer others what I have been willing to explore and cultivate within myself, I have made my own personal work an ongoing priority. I have learned to embrace being “perfectly imperfect.” Well, to be fully transparent, I should say I am still learning. It is a lifelong journey.
Becoming a more culturally responsive therapist is also an ongoing and life long journey for me. As a white, able-bodied, neurodivergent, cisgendered woman, I recognize that I move through the world with both named and unnamed forms of privilege that shape my experiences and perspectives. I feel a personal and professional responsibility to continue learning about colonialism, racism, ableism, and other forms of oppression, and to reflect honestly on how these systems may influence the lives and experiences of the people I work with.
This is important work to me. I am committed to approaching it with humility, curiosity, and openness, while continually examining my own assumptions and blind spots. I regularly seek education, consultation, reflection, and opportunities to deepen my understanding so that I can continue growing as a therapist and create a more inclusive, respectful, and compassionate space for my clients.
When I’m not working, I enjoy the company of my two labradoodles, gardening, crafting, listening to audiobooks, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends, including my two budding young adult children. Anything chocolate, big belly laughs, and sitting in nature brings me joy. Although I was not raised in Maryland, I have been proud to call it home for more than 25 years.
